We must ensure that our children eat different coloured fruits and vegetables.

This is because different coloured fruits and vegetables contain different nutrients. And when they eat a mix and match of colours, children get all the nutrients they need.

To make it easy for parents to feed children all the nutrients that they need – doctors often say – “Just eat a Rainbow”.

What are the colours children should eat?

Children should eat vegetables and fruits that are Violet, Indigo (dark blue), Green, Yellow, Orange, Red and White every day if possible.

 Yellow

Yellow fruits get their colour because of Flavonoids and Lycopene which are antioxidants and have anti-inflammatory properties. They also have Beta Carotene which turns into Vitamin A in the body. And they are usually also good sources of Vitamin C. These two vitamins increase immunity.

I am sharing the recipe of Pineapple Pudding to add the colour yellow to your plate.

Here are the ingredients:

Semolina, bombay rava, ¼ cup

Pineapple, finely chopped, ¼ cup

Ghee, 3 tbsp

Raw sugar, ¼ cup

Cashews powdered, 1 tbsp

Hot water, ½ cup

Method:

1. Clean the semolina by checking for impurities like stone or grit.

  1. Place a kadai on gas, add the ghee and roast the cashew until golden brown.
  2. Add the semolina and roast the semolina until golden brown and toasty.
  3. Add the raw sugar to the semolina.
  4. Add the finely chopped pineapple.
  5. Add hot water and mix.
  6. Cook till the semolina is cooked. You can add a little more hot water if required. Once done, switch off the gas. Serve warm or room temperature.

Note – Always check with your doctor before giving your baby any new food. Wean your baby to all the ingredients separately first, in the usual recommended way and then serve this dish if your baby tolerates all the ingredients without any problem.
