Bright lights, festive delicacies, extended families extending their love – buzzing in and around your baby, all dressed in vibrant traditional outfits – everything set to make your baby’s first Diwali a memorable one. But throughout festivities it is also important to keep your baby out of harm’s way and enjoy the celebrations. Allow us to shed some light.

Stay in the light and in sight

Diwali is that time of the year when your house will be bustling with friends and family. And the center of attraction will be your baby. They will all be hovering over your baby, pulling cheeks, rocking the cradle and making an attempt to speak baby lingo. With all these new faces your baby might be ‘faced’ with a problem, getting uncomfortable or cranky. So at all times, ensure that your baby is never left alone with unfamiliar faces.

 Create a baby-friendly space

When it comes to decorating you house and making it the brightest in the neighbourhood, you leave no stone unturned. When decorating your home with flowers you need to know that they might trigger allergic reactions and lead to conditions like hay fever and asthma in babies. Always spray flowers with water before bringing them indoors. Babies also love the lights and crawl towards them, so to keep them safe and away from burns, you need to ensure there are no lighted diyas or agarbattis in your baby’s room.

Make it a less noisy Diwali

Say NO to noisy firecrackers, which might scare the baby. Instead, go for fuljhadis or chakris and watch your baby’s face light up with joy. It is always preferable to watch the celebrations from a distance. Earmuffs for the baby always come in handy when the decibel levels get unbearable.

 Happy baby. Happy you.

Before you bring the baby out to enjoy the celebrations, always ensure that the baby is well fed, and well rested. To make the baby less cranky and restless, it is advisable to follow your baby’s regular routine, and not disturb it.

On a lighter note, do share your Diwali moments with your baby and have a safe and a wonderful celebration.
